The Humility of Christ!

Philippians 2:1-8

"1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:1-8, ESV)

“It is when people are really in earnest, when their beliefs really matter to them, that they are apt to get up against each other. The greater their enthusiasm, the greater the danger that they may collide. It is against that danger Paul wished to safeguard his friends.” (William Barclay, Theologian)

"1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit…"

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13, ESV)

"3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves."

"5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,”

"6 who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in His steps.” (1 Peter 2:21, ESV)

“Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1, ESV)

LIFE GROUP NOTES SESSION 6

NO MATTER WHAT!

BIG IDEA

What might the church look like today if our mindset was, no matter what I will live for God's glory and nothing will rob me of my joy in Christ Jesus?

BIBLE STUDY NOTES

Philippians 3:15-21

PERSONAL REFLECTION

What do you think of Willard's quote that opened this session? Why is it important that Christians think well?

How has being a Christian made you weird in your cultural context? Do you see this dynamic becoming stronger or weaker? (Are we seeming weirder or no?)

The Apostle Peter calls us not to be surprised when the world looks upon us as weird. How should we take this treatment?
