Being Content When Life is Hard!

Philippians 1:12-18.

"12 I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. 14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. 15 Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. 16 The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.” (Philippians 1:12-18, ESV)

Contentment in the mission of God

"12 I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ.”

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21, ESV)

Our suffering can be our greatest source of discouragement, or a springboard for the gospel!

Contentment in the priority of the gospel

"14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. 15 Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will.”

"18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.”

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16, ESV)

"12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when His glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.” (1 Peter 4:12-16, ESV)

When we allow the gospel to shape our perspective, joy will then shape our circumstances!!

LIFE GROUP NOTES SESSION 3

NO MATTER WHAT!

BIG IDEA

What might the church look like today if our mindset was, no matter what I will live for God’s glory and nothing will rob me of my joy in Christ Jesus?

BIBLE STUDY NOTES

PERSONAL REFLECTION

When you were 16 years old, how selfish were you?

What are some examples of the wrong mindset in the world around us?

Where do you see traces of this selfish mindset in yourself?
