Where Do We Go From Here?

Philippians 1:9-11

“The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it.” ~ W. M. Lewis

“8 For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11, ESV)

"8 For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And it is my prayer…"

“May the Son of God, who is already formed in you, grow in you, so that for you He will become immeasurable, and that in you He will become laughter, exultation, and the fullness of joy, which no one can take from you" ~ Issac of Stella (Theologian and philosopher, 1100AD)

A prayer to love more!

"9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more…"

“7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.” (1 John 4:7-19, ESV)

"34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35, ESV)

A prayer to pursue excellence!

"9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent…”

“There is a common, worldly kind of 'Christianity’ in this day, which many have—a cheap Christianity which offends nobody, and requires no sacrifice—which costs nothing, and is worth nothing.” ~ J.C. Ryle

“13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:13-16, ESV)

A prayer to live blamelessly!

“12 We can say with confidence and a clear conscience that we have lived with a God-given holiness and sincerity in all our dealings. We have depended on God’s grace, not on our own human wisdom. That is how we have conducted ourselves before the world, and especially toward you.” (2 Corinthians 1:12, ESV)

LIFE GROUP NOTES SESSION 2

NO MATTER WHAT!

BIG IDEA

What might the church look like today if our mindset was, no matter what I will live for God’s glory and nothing will rob me of my joy in Christ Jesus?

BIBLE STUDY NOTES

Philippians 1:12:30

PERSONAL REFLECTION

What in your life could you genuinely complain about right now?

What are some of the obstacles Paul is facing in this passage? What is his attitude toward these things? What enables him to see things as he does?

What all do you think is meant by “to live is Christ and to die is gain”? Could you say that? Why or why not?
