A Savior is Born: Hope

A SAVIOR IS BORN: HOPE

1 Peter 1:3-5

"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." (1 Peter 1:1-5 ESV)

"Though He slay me, I will hope in Him.” (Job 13:15)

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.” (Psalm 62:5)

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” Romans 15:4

A Grateful Hope in God’s Calling (v.1-2)

"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you." (1 Peter 1:1-2 ESV)

"3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,” (2 Peter 1:3b ESV)

A Living Hope in a Resurrected Savior (v.3)

"3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead," (1 Peter 1:3 ESV)

"3 Blessed [gratefully praised and adored] be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant and boundless mercy has caused us to be born again [that is, to be reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His

purpose] to an ever-living hope and confident assurance through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead," (1 Peter 1:3 Amplified Bible)

A Future Hope in an Eternal Inheritance (v. 4)

"he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you," (1 Peter 1:3b-4 ESV)

"And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope." (1 Thessalonians 4:13)

Serenity Prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.

A Secure Hope in a Protective God (v.5)

"5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." (1 Peter 1:5 ESV)

"6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:6-9 ESV)

HOPE

BIG IDEA

Every humble detail that Luke writes, regarding the birth of Christ, points to God’s plan of redemption for the world.

BIBLE STUDY NOTES

Luke 1

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Relying on the truth that God will do what he says takes faith—not feelings. How has trusting in God even when you don’t understand stretched your faith?

⊲ BE CHALLENGED

Similar to Mary's song of adoration, write your own song of praise to God for who He is to you. Consider writing in this workbook, your journal or blog. Meditate on those words and let them remind you of His goodness throughout the week.

⊲ FURTHER STUDY

Read the book of Ruth. Use a keyword study bible or online bible dictionary and look up the Hebrew definition for lovingkindness. Search out its significance in the book of Ruth. Be intentional about remembering this special word throughout your week.
