Purposeful Life Together

Galatians 6:1-6

"Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. 5 For each will have to bear his own load. 6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches.” (Galatians 6:1-6, ESV)

RESTORE!

v.1- "Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness.”

…you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness

“15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed…”  (James 5:15-16a, ESV)

SUPPORT!

v. 2 "Bear one another's burdens"

John Owen - “Temptation puts nothing in a man. It only draws what was in him before.”

“And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14, ESV)

SHARE!

“6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches.”

"42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." (Acts 2:42-47, ESV)

LIFE GROUP NOTES SESSION  2

BIG IDEA

Since we’re alive in Christ, we can take off the old self and put on the new self, which affects our mindset, our actions toward each other, and how we engage in corporate worship.

BIBLE STUDY NOTES

Colossians 3:11-16

PERSONAL REFLECTION

What does it mean to take off the old self and put on the new self?

What’s one practical way you could take off the old self and put on the new self this week?

LIVE IT OUT

Select at least one activity below to complete before next week.

⊲ MEMORIZE

Memorize Colossians 3:11-16. This week, focus on these verses, reciting it to yourself over the next few days.

⊲ PRAY

Pray through the characteristics of the old and new self this week. Ask God to show you what you need to put to death and what you need to put on and ask Him for the strength to obey.

⊲ REFLECT

Every time you get dressed or change clothes this week, reflect on what it means to take off the old self and put on the new self. Pray God would continue to remind you that you have been made new in Christ.

⊲ GIVE THANKS

Every time you get dressed or change clothes this week, reflect on what it means to take off the old self and put on the new self. Pray God would continue to remind you that you have been made new in Christ.
