God's Faithfulness to Finish His Work in Us!

"[23] Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. [24] He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it."

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

1. God provides peace

"[23] Now may the God of peace..."

"[5] But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked men to the rabble, they formed a mob, set the city in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the crowd. [6] And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting, "These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also, [7] and Jason has received them, and they are all acting against the decrees of Ceasar, saying that there is another king, Jesus." [8] And the people and the city authorities were disturbed when they heard these things." Acts 17:5-8 (ESV)

2. God provides sanctification

"[23] Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely,"

"[1] Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:1

"[23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, [25] whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins." Romans 3:23-25 (ESV)

3. God provides completion

"[23] Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. [24] He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it."

"[6] And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6 (ESV)

LIFEGROUP SESSION 4

BIG IDEA

The ultimate hope of our Christian faith is to dwell with God forever, and that is a promise for those who belong to his flock.

BIBLE STUDY NOTES

Psalm 23:1-6

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Where are you in need of mercy today? How should the truth that God's mercy follows you through faith in Christ meet you in that need?

How are you orienting your life around the presence of God? What can you do to find spaces throughout your day to make yourself aware of his presence? To soak up his Word and spend time in prayer with him?

LIVE IT OUT

Select at least one activity below to complete before next week.

⊲ MEMORIZE

Continue working on memorizing Psalm 23. This week, focus on verse six reciting it to yourself over the next few days.

⊲ PRAY

Each morning this week, before you start your day, take a moment to invite God into whatever you have planned (work, errands, school, etc.). Ask him to help you sense his presence as you go about your day.

⊲ EVALUATE

Set aside some time this week to evaluate your spiritual life. Consider whether you are orienting your life around God's presence, like Matt said. After doing so, make a plan with the practical steps toward a more intentional pursuit of the Lord in the days ahead.
