God's Faithful Presence

Deuteronomy 31:6

"4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-7, ESV)

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6, ESV)

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! 9 If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139:7-10, ESV)

“16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17, ESV)

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you,” (1 Corinthians 6:19, ESV)

“But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.” (Psalm 73:28, ESV)

“God makes His influence more manifestly felt and experienced in particular ways and in particular times.”

“When God manifests Himself or His presence in a fresh new way, stunning things just objectively happen in the world”. ~ John Piper

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6, ESV)

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you...”

"He will not leave you or forsake you."

“In the midst of our pain, we can still believe His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us. God sometimes permits what He hates, to accomplish what He loves”  ~ Joni Eareckson Tada

“17 The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and kind in all His works. 18 The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” (Psalm 145:17-18, ESV)

LIFEGROUP SESSION 3

BIG IDEA

God does not just accept those who surrender their lives to Christ--he delights in them as children adopted into his family.

BIBLE STUDY NOTES

Psalm 23:1-6

PERSONAL REFLECTION

What's one way the truth that God delights in you here and now could change how you approach your relationship with him today?

What can you do practically to rest in God's acceptance this week? What do you need to surrender to him in order to do so?

LIVE IT OUT

Select at least one activity below to complete before next week.

⊲ MEMORIZE

Continue working on memorizing Psalm 23. This week, focus on verse five reciting it to yourself over the next few days.

⊲ PRAY

Ask the Lord to help you see him as he truly is and to more fully believe in the richness of his love for you.

⊲ LIST

Take out a small piece of paper and write down 2-3 specific ways that God has demonstrated his delight in you at various points in your life. Then, put it in a place where you will see it at the start of each day this week. Each time you read it, reflect on God's kindness to you and thank him for it.
