SERMON NOTES

A Message For Your One!

Scripture Romans 10:11-15

11For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame." 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!"

The Reach of the Gospel vv11-13

11For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame." 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Romans 1:16

16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

The Requirement of the Gospel vv14-15

14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15And how are they to preach unless they are sent?

Matthew 28

18And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

The Reward of the Gospel v15

15And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!"

SO WHAT?

LIFEGROUP NOTES

Week 3 - A Message for Your One!

Sunday’s message showed us that we each have an individual responsibility to preach the Gospel, but we often have excuses for not doing so.

As a group, discuss some of the most common excuses that you have used or that you have heard someone else use to avoid sharing the Gospel with someone.

No matter how original or authentic you think an excuse is for not being obedient, it is not original. We see all types of excuses throughout scripture. Today in Life Group, we will examine a little further the passage from Sunday. We’ll look at Romans 10:14-21, where we will also see that there are no valid excuses before GOD!

Read Romans 10:13-21

1.  In v18-20, Paul brings up two possible excuses for Israel’s rejection of GOD.
What are they?

2.  Is Paul trying to defend Israel when he brings up these excuses?

Let’s look individually at the excuses that Paul brings up for Israel.

“They haven’t heard”

3.  How does Paul respond to this excuse?

4.  Read Psalms 19:1-6 and Romans 1:20 as a group. Are there any similarities between these two passages?

5.  Paul quotes from Isaiah 52:7 in Romans 10:15. There is one HUGE difference between the two passages. What is it and what is its significance?

“They didn’t understand”

6.  What is Paul’s response to this excuse?

7.  Read Isaiah 65:1-2 as a group. How do these verses support Paul in his indictment of Israel?

Impact Statement:
We know that believers of GOD are expected to take up their individual responsibility to share the Gospel. But consider this, if one is truly a believer of GOD, then they have, at a minimum, heard and have understood the Gospel--removing the two most common excuses for our rejection of GOD and his commandments. As believers, we all know enough to be effective in sharing the message of Christ with others. Remember, this is GOD’s plan as seen in Isaiah 52:7, “the feet of him,” compared to Romans 10:15, ‘“the feet of those.” It was Christ who brought the message first, but it is now our responsibility to be in the party of “those” who continue to take the message of Christ to the world.
