Ephesians 2:14-22

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit

Christ is our Peace

(2:14a).14 For he himself is our peace...

Christ Broke Down Our Walls (2:14b-17)14b who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

Christ Gave Us Access to God

(2:18)18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.

Christ Made Us Citizens of a New Kingdom

Christ Made Us Stones in a New Temple

(2:20-22)20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit

SO WHAT?

LIFEGROUP NOTES Week 10 - Joined with Intentionality!

Families come in all shapes in sizes. Blended, traditional, single, multi-generation- al...the list goes on and on.

Take a few minutes and describe your family. What is the key ingredient that makes you a family? Is it genetics? Marriage? Love?

Take a few minutes as a group and discuss what happens when your family experi- ences moments of fracturing and disunity.

Finally, as a Life Group, discuss the portions of this week’s message that had the biggest impact on you.

Take a moment and read John 17:20-23 and discuss the following:
1. What is the major theme of this passage? Before we dig deeper into this passage, why
do you think unity among believers is so important to Christ?

2. Verse 21 is loaded with a doctrine essential to Christianity. The Christian Church stands firm on the Biblical principle that the Father and Son are one. Ask for volun- teers to read the following passages to underscore this doctrine:

3. According to John 17:23 what role does unity play in our efforts to make disciples?

Read Acts 2:42-47 and discuss the following:

4. How would you describe the Church after reading Acts 2:42-47? Was the church well received in the community? Did the Church grow through evangelism? Why?

Impact Section

Unity is essential to the doctrine that the Father and Son are one. Unity is also essen- tial to the life of the church. Unity is not just something the Church must strive for...it is something that the Church must have to be healthy and to grow. The good news is that Jesus is praying for our unity! He is praying that this Life Group, CrossPointe Church, the churches in this city, region, state, nation and world would be unified in the same way he and the Father are unified! The real question we must ask ourselves is “why aren’t we more unified?” Take a moment and discuss this and then end your Life Group with a prayer that God would unify us in ways we never imagined so that we can see more people than we ever imagined come to know Christ as Savior!
