Worship Through the Psalms: The Everlasting Throne of God

Psalm 45.1-6, 10-11-The Everlasting Throne of GOD

"1 My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe. 2 You are the most handsome of the sons of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever. 3 Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your splendor and majesty! 4 In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let your right hand teach you awesome deeds! 5 Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; the peoples fall under you. 6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness;

"10 Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear: forget your people and your father's house, 11 and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him."

An Eternal Throne Elicits Worship (v1):

"1 My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe."

An Eternal Throne Needs an Anchor (v2-4b):

"2 You are the most handsome of the sons of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever. 3 Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your splendor and majesty! 4 In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

An Eternal Throne Must Have A Loyal People (v4c-5)

"let your right hand teach you awesome deeds! 5 Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; the peoples fall under you.

An Eternal Throne Must Be Able to Overcome All Threats(v6)

"6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever."

1. God/Christ will have no successor.

2. Don’t have to maneuver or politic to ingratiate yourself with the next authority.

3. God’s reign on the throne cannot be subverted or overthrown.

4. You cannot wait-out God because His reign is timeless! There will not be a regime change

"10 Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear: forget your people and your father's house, 11 and the king will desire your beauty."

Eph. 5:25-27

"25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish."

Since he is your lord, bow to him.
