Worship Through the Psalms: Create in Us a Clean Heart
“I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented…” (Romans 1:13, ESV)
“ And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good….” (Romans 8:28, ESV)
Revival - A spiritual reawakening in the life of a believer that revives a love for God, an appreciation of God’s holiness, a convicting awareness of sin, and a desire for growth in righteousness.
Psalm 51 heading :“To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.”
Psalm 51:1-2; & 10-13 - 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin;…… 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.” (Psalm 51:1-2; 10-13, ESV)
Turn helplessly to God’s mercy!
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.”
“I received mercy for this reason, that in me, the worst of sinners, Jesus Christ might display His perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in Him for eternal life.” (1 Timothy 1:16)
Pray to be counted clean!
“2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
Pray for renewal of spirit!
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”
But here is the promise of God’s Word - “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9, ESV)
“14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:14-21, ESV)
