The Preeminence of Christ
“15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent.” (Colossians 1:15-19, ESV)
CHRIST IS OVER ALL THINGS CREATED!
“15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities, all things were created through Him and for Him.”
“All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. (John 1:3, CSB)
"17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."
“5 For to which of the angels did He ever say, “You are my Son, today I have become your Father, or again, I will be His Father, and He will be my Son? 6 Again, when He brings His firstborn into the world, He says, and let all God’s angels worship Him.” (Hebrews 1:5-6, CSB)
CHRIST IS HEAD OF THE CHURCH!
v.18 And He is the head of the body, the church.
“The revelation made of Christ in the blessed gospel is far more excellent, more glorious, more filled with rays of divine wisdom and goodness, than the whole creation. This therefore deserves the severest of our thoughts, the best of our meditations, and our utmost diligence in them. For if our future blessedness shall consist in living where He is, and beholding His glory, what better preparation can there be for it than a constant previous contemplation of that glory as revealed in the gospel.” (The Glory of Christ, John Owen)
“1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:1-5, ESV)
