Trusting God in the Wilderness

Exodus 13:17-18

17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For God said, “Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.” 18 But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle." (Exodus 13:17-18, ESV)

"Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night.2 And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron...." (Numbers 14:1-2, ESV)

"Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?” (Numbers 14:3, ESV)

"And they said to one another, “Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.” (Numbers 14:4, ESV)

God doesn't always take us down the easiest route!!

Today, we are going to look at a few verses in a topical fashion to see what the bible has to say about our paths and our direction.

1. Turn to and read Matt 7:13-14. This passage discusses two differ- ent paths. As a group, discuss what each path is and where each path leads.

2. How does this verse encourage you as a follower of Christ?

3. Turn to and read Ps. 119:105. What does this passage tell us about the path that God has for us as believers in His flock?

4. Turn to and read Proverbs 3:5-6. What can we learn about walking the difficult path from these verses?

5. Turn to an
