Strangers Taken In

Strangers Taken In!

Ephesians 2:11-13

11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:11-13, ESV)

Remember the division of their past!

11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles...

"And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed." (Acts 13:48, ESV)

Remember the hopelessness of their past!

12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

Brought near in Christ

13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near...

"Peace, peace, to the far and to the near,” says the Lord, “and I will heal him" (Isaiah 57:19, ESV)

"And those who know Your name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." (Psalm 9:10, ESV)

LIFEGROUP NOTES

Week 8 - Strangers Taken In!

This weekend’s sermon was about being “Strangers Taken In!” Today’s study will look at the topic of “adoption”, or how we become a child of GOD. Today we will also look at how we are empowered through this adoption, no longer being aliens/strangers to GOD, but being made members of GOD’s household, of GOD’s family. Let's start with a brief review of Sunday’s passage. Read Romans 8:12-17 carefully as a group.

1. What attributes/characteristics of the children of God (believers) does Paul point out throughout this passage?

2. According to this verse, what criteria are necessary for people to be considered sons of God?
