Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matt. 28:19, ESV)

"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." ( Galatians 2:20, ESV)

"35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus..." Week 4 - Irresistible Works

The premise from Sunday’s message was that when we truly see Christ, we cannot help but talk about what we have seen. Today’s study will look at a passage where the fulcrum of action revolves around a similar statement. As a group, turn to Acts 4:1-22.

1. What is the context of this passage? Summarize as a group what is happening in these verses.

2. Discuss as a group what makes Peter’s response (v8) to the question in (v7) so atypical?

3. What gave Peter such boldness in this situation?

4. The climax of action and drama in this passage can be seen in v19-20. In response to the charge to not speak or teach in the name of Jesus, discuss Peter’s answer and the potential ramifications he could have faced for such boldness.

5. What was the outcome of their attitude-- “We cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard” and resulting actions?

Impact Statement

How different would our world be if Christians all had the same perspective of Peter when he told the authorities, I cannot shut my mouth! I cannot help but speak about the things I have seen Jesus do--and why would I want to? My life is different and so are many others lives! They were bold with their actions and speech, in fact their actions were irresistible! For many of us today, our relationship with God is quite resistible--we resist our witness at work, with family, when we are with the ‘guys’ or ‘girls’, or anytime that publicly acknowledging God would be uncomfortable or awkward! Don’t we think that it was awkward and somewhat uncomfortable for Peter and John to stand in the presence of the court, filled with people who were antagonists--not one sympathizer among them-- but Peter and John did not care uncomfortable the situation was they were determined to know nothing but Jesus Christ and Him Crucified! Can you say the same?

6. For a time of extended study, look at the following passages:
